Updates

Search for ads by image in the Ad Review Center

To help you review ads even more efficiently in the Ad Review Center , you can now search for ads based on a specific image. Just upload an image, for instance a competitor's logo, and we'll return image ads that contain this image for you to take action on. For more details visit our Help Center.

More control over the ads on your sites

Interested in customizing the blocking settings for different sites you own? Visit the 'Site management' section in your account and build a list of all your sites to apply site-specific actions to. Under 'Allow and block', you'll then be able to block general categories, sensitive categories and advertiser URLs for AdSense for content on a site-by-site basis. Learn more about this new feature in our Help Center.

Launching a larger, brand-friendly ad unit size in AdSense

One of the top requests from publishers in the last year has been to add larger ad sizes to our network, and so we're excited to announce that the popular 300x600 unit is now available in your AdSense account. Because this unit is new to our network, you'll currently see a large number of text ads in these placements. Over time we'll continue to build a wide range of text and display ad inventory eligible to appear in this full slot as well. Read more information in our blog post.

Enhancing text ads on the Google Display Network

You may have noticed that we've recently updated the look and feel of most text ads on publisher sites (see an example below). We've integrated optimizations to font size, spacing, padding, and text layout as well as a new clickable arrow icon - our experiments have shown improved performance as a result of these changes. We'll continue to innovate on new formats in order to drive significantly higher performance for both publishers and advertisers, so stay tuned. For more information on this update, visit our Inside AdSense blog.

User Experience

Learn about the 5 core principles of user experience

Have you thought about user experience and design lately? User experience can make or break your site's success and, with many other sites offering similar services, it's important to differentiate your site in the eyes of your users by providing a better experience. Check out our three-part blog series (part I, part II, part III) to learn about the five core user experience principles.

Also, watch the Hangout on Air recording (only available in English) to hear from an AdSense publisher about his user experience strategy, and follow the AdSense +page to stay informed on additional tips.

DFP Small Business

New videos to help you get started with DFP Small Business

Interested in maximizing the yield from your ad inventory? Already partnering with other ad networks, or are planning to? If so, DFP Small Business, Google's free hosted ad serving solution, might be for you.

We recently hosted a Google+ Hangout series explaining how to use 'Dynamic Allocation' - one of DFP's most powerful features to maximize revenue from every single impression - and how to get started with targeting in DFP. Have a look at the recordings (only available in English) on our AdSense YouTube channel.

bubbles
November 2012 Publisher ID ca-pub-4040386968601085

Dear publisher,

Mobile will continue to be one of the big trends in 2013, with more and more users accessing websites from their mobile devices. With this in mind, optimizing your site and ads for mobile will become increasingly important. Not only should your site be optimized for mobile, but your ads should too. In our Tip of the Month we'll share some best practices around mobile ads, which formats to use, and where to place them. You'll also find information about:
  • Optimizing, from the perspective of other publishers
  • Get more out of your performance reports
  • Verifying your Google+ page
  • Creating high quality websites
Kind regards,

Sophie

Tip of the Month

Optimize your mobile performance with AdSense

It's now easier than ever to monetize your mobile site as we offer high-end mobile ad code directly in your account. As a best practice, we recommend using the 320x50 mobile header or the 300x250 medium rectangle. Have a look at the graphic below to get an idea of how these ad formats can be placed visibly within your mobile site's layout:

Create mobile ad code

If you don't have a mobile-optimized website yet, the first step is to create one. Check out howtogomo.com to learn more about going mobile and start building your mobile site with our free tool.

If you're interested in hearing more about creating a mobile strategy, watch our Hangout recording on YouTube.

Updates

Get more out of your performance reports

We've recently made some usability and visual enhancements to your AdSense performance reports to help you interpret the data in your account. You'll be able to select from different graph types for a number of your reports, and also add an "Events" overlay to the standard timeline graph, which will help you understand how changes you've made have affected performance.

For additional insights, we recommend linking your AdSense account with a new or existing Analytics account with our improved linking process. We've also created an easy-to-use dashboard to show you relevant information at a glance, so you can get started with your AdSense data in Analytics immediately.

Verify your +page to help gain visibility

Do you manage a Google+ page for your website? Be sure to add the Google+ badge to your site's pages and then once you've gained a significant following, request verification. Verified +pages that are popular and engaging may appear on the right side of relevant Google.com search results, for users that are logged in. Please note that to be eligible, the +page needs to be active with regularly-updated content and have built a significant following. For more information, visit the AdSense blog.

Tip of the Month

Optimize your website's performance for a better user experience

At Google we've found that faster sites increase user experience. In fact, around 49%* of users leave a site or go to a competitor if they experience performance issues. Speed is not only important for retaining your users but it also plays a role in Google's search ranking.

To help you make your sites faster, we offer PageSpeed Insights. It analyzes the content of your web pages and mobile sites live and generates suggestions to reduce page load times.

If you find it hard to make the suggested changes, you can now use PageSpeed Service. It automatically rewrites your pages by applying web performance best practices. On top of that, PageSpeed Service uses Google infrastructure to serve your content to the end user. This Beta version is currently free, so we encourage you to sign up for this service as soon as possible.

Tip of the Month

Overcome user ad-blindness with better ad placements

A general principle for ad placements says that you should place your ad units high up on the page so your users will see them easily. However, ad units placed at the absolute top of the page (before any content) tend to suffer from user ad-blindness and on average show a 61% lower CTR than ads below the header and closer to the content.

If you have an ad unit at the very top of the page, you should test whether moving the ad unit closer to the rest of your content, yet still above the fold, improves the ad performance.

  Improve ad placements
If you’re experimenting with placing an ad below the header, you can use this handy tool to check whether your ads are still appearing above the fold.

Updates

Launching the new step-by-step guide to DFP Small Business

If you're looking into monetizing your site with AdSense alongside other ad networks or direct advertisers, DFP Small Business is Google's free, hosted ad serving solution to help manage all of your ads. We've recently launched DFP Academy, a step-by-step guide to getting started with ad serving.

  Join DFP Academy

Broadcast live with Google+ Hangouts on Air

Want to host a live video broadcast and connect with your users in a new way? Google+ Hangouts on Air enable you to do just that - whether you want to teach a class, discuss a topic with active readers, or just share your content live in front of a global audience. Users can tune into your live stream from your Google+ page, your YouTube channel, and your site. Learn more about Hangouts on Air, and get started with hosting your own.

Save time with the Google Publisher Toolbar

The Google Publisher Toolbar is a new Chrome extension that allows you to view your performance data, drill down into ad unit statistics, and block ads by creative or URL - all while viewing your site in Chrome. Once you've installed the toolbar, you'll be able to see a snapshot of your account performance via a widget in the corner of your browser window. You can also enable ad overlays  directly on your page to block ads or to view more information about specific ad units. To get started with the Publisher Toolbar, just follow the instructions in our Help Center.

Check what's trending in the online display ads business

One of the ways we support our publishers is by giving access to new sources of knowledge that enables them to make the most from display advertising. We therefore recently introduced the "Display Business Trends: Publisher Edition" which shows you the top site verticals in the AdSense network in terms of monetized impressions and allows you to compare CPMs across ad sizes, countries, and verticals.

Manage access to your AdSense account for multiple users

In response to the most highly-requested feature that we've heard publishers ask for, it's now possible to invite new users to access an AdSense account. With this new feature, you'll be able to give colleagues or partners access to your account, but with certain restrictions around the information that they can see and edit. For more information about getting started, visit our Help Center.
